Z1327 Memorial Sponsored Walk

Posted by admin on August 5, 2016

2016 marks the 70th Anniversary of the Huddersfield branch of the Royal Air Forces Association.  The branch had always intended to celebrate the occasion through a  series of fund-raising events, but the proposal for a sponsored five-day walk by two of our lady members was definitely out of the ordinary.

Members of the branch were responsible in 2015 for the creation of a memorial to the crew of Wellington bomber Z1327 which crashed on a training flight in 1942 at Farnley Tyas, near Huddersfield.  What better way of honouring their memory whilst raising funds than by walking the route from the aircraft’s base at RAF Breighton to Huddersfield?  Super-fit athlete members Karen Todd and Sharon Pearson were the obvious candidates for the task.

Karen and Sharon are training hard for the event.  Would you consider sponsoring their efforts?
